For Winnipeg’s Thomas
Stuart-Dant, hockey is
about the journey, not the
destination. It has to be.
He’d go nuts otherwise. A
former Winnipeg high school
standout, Stuart-Dant played
2 ½ seasons in the Keystone
Junior Hockey League and
then figured out a way to
play professional hockey in
Europe. He’s not a big-money
Canadian star scoring all sorts
of goals in the KHL. Instead,
he’s playing in the German
4th League, making his way
from the bottom to the top in
the lower levels of European
hockey.
But he also loves every
minute of it. Stuart-Dant, 26,
comes from a hockey family.
His father Chris Dant worked
for both the Moose and the
Jets and today he writes a
column for prohockeynews.
com and scouts for the Utah
Outliers of the Western States
Hockey League. His mom,
Karen Stuart, is the secretary
for Triple A Hockey and sits
on the Triple A board. Playing
hockey is what Thomas Stuart-
Dant does and it doesn’t
matter to him that the league
he plays in is about as far
away as you can get from the
NHL. Still, he gets a cheque
every week and he’s doing
what he loves and life can’t
get too much better than that.
He sat down with Game On
Magazine just a couple of days
before he left for Germany
and talked about his wild and
crazy ride.
