Curtis Lovett Head coach: Shayne Skeoch 88 GAME ON Killarney Shamrocks 2017 CHAMPIONS EDITION the season with a remarkable record of 34-1. On Saturday night, in the semifinals, Killarney shut out the Wild Card team – and the second best team in the Tiger Hills Sr. A League – the Carberry Plainsmen 4-0 while Norway House, the champions of the Northwest Sr. A Hockey League, knocked off the Southeastern Mani- toba Hockey League champion Notre Dame Hawks 4-3 in a shootout. Those games set up a Sunday afternoon matchup between Killarney and Norway House that was never in doubt. In fact, they might call themselves the Shamrocks, but this title was won on speed and talent, not luck. I’ve never played on a team like this. It’s a real special team. I’ve been in Killarney for six years. My first year in Killarney, we won and then we had a few lean years and now we’ve won two in a row. This is as good a team as I’ve ever played on Former Dauphin Kings forward Aubrey Chapman opened the scoring at 10:58 of the first pe- riod on a beautiful shot over the shoulder of Norway House netminder Sonny Albert. Colton Magwood and Ryan Howatt drew the assists. The Shamrocks made it 2-0 at 14:46, when Howatt scored his first of two goals from Chap- man and Gow. Then, at 17:11, Jesse Ramsden scored from Lane Ganske and Gow and it was suddenly 3-0. The Shamrocks were now in total control. In the second period, Killarney quickly built the lead to 5-0 as Gow scored what would turn out to be the eventual winner from Isaac Friesen and Brayden Cuthbert and then Ganske scored from Lee Magwood and Gow to give the Shamrocks a five-goal lead. At that point, you had to give Norway House credit. The North Stars didn’t quit. Cody Ballard
