Host Team Finishes Fourth at 2017 Keystone Cup

After years of planning and the incredible work of 80 volunteers , Arborg , Man ., finally got its chance to play host to the 2017 Keystone Cup , the Western Canadian Junior B Hockey Championship . In the end , the Wainwright , Alta ., Bisons won the Cup , but the host team , the Arborg Ice Dawgs were the hit of the tournament . After losing the Provincial Championship to Peguis , the Ice Dawgs reached the Bronze Medal game of the Keystone Cup . It was a tribute to the people of Arborg who made the event possible .
ARBORG , MB . – You have to give those Arborg IceDawgs credit . They were certainly the stars of their own tournament .
In mid-April , the Town of Arborg , Man ., played host to the 2017 Keystone Cup , the Western Canadian Jr . B Hockey Championship . For a small Interlake town like Arborg , a town with a population of 1,232 , this was a huge undertaking . But thanks to the exciting play of the home team and the work of almost 80 volunteers , it was one of the most successful hockey events ever held in Manitoba .
“ The 2017 Keystone Cup was a huge success ,” said Ivan Gulay , the General Manager of the Ice Dawgs . “ I believe Arborg will be rated very highly as one of the top communities ever to play host to the Junior B Westerns .
“ The Arborg Western Committee consisted of 20 board members with co-chairs Allan Sigurdson and Maureen Sigurgeirson . This committee consisted of a strong core of individuals who knew that through hard work , dedication and countless hours of effort , we would be successful .”
