In Grade 11, she joined the
Dakota Collegiate Lancers
of the Winnipeg Women’s
High School Hockey League.
It turned out to be the
beginning of a high school
hockey dynasty. In 2012-
13, the Lancers topped the
CTV Division with a 17-2-1
record as Allard scored 13
goals and dished out 16
assists in just 20 games.
The Lancers later defeated
the Louis Riel Voyageurs
for their first WWHSHL
title in nine seasons.
Dakota repeated as
champions in 2013-14.
Allard had 13 goals and 28
points during the regular
season and led all Lancers
with seven goals in seven
playoff games, including a
goal and an assist in the title-
clinching game against the
Fort Richmond Centurions.
After Allard graduated, the
Lancers three-peated in
2014-15, becoming only the
third school in league history
to accomplish the feat.
Six of Allard’s teammates
from those Dakota teams
also play for the Blizzard:
team point leader Mackenzie
Kowalczuk, defenders Ashten
Vankoughnett and Kiana
Lee, forward Kelsie Sloan and
goaltenders Sydney Urwin
and Kelsey Bowerman.
“We just had a really
good team,” Allard said. “We
weren’t really set out to win
those years; we were kind of
underdogs. Our team pulled
through in the playoffs.”
In 70 games over nearly
three seasons with the
Blizzard, Allard has notched
20 goals and 34 points.
She’s also accrued 34
penalty minutes. Blizzard
head coach Doug Orchard

has been impressed with
her two-way style of play.
“Trina is a very good
positional hockey player.
She’s strong at (center), she’s
hands-up and she’s a leader
on the ice,” Orchard said. “She
has improved an awful lot
from last year. She’s become
more confident in her game
and she is one that I lean to
if I need an important faceoff
win somewhere. She would
definitely fit that role.”
He also added that
the Blizzard is an
“absolutely better team”
with Allard on the ice.
“When she’s on the ice,
she’s very much in control
when she has the puck,”
he said. “She’s a tenacious
checker and just a good hockey
player. You can depend on
her in the defensive zone (as
well). She’s very good at that.”
Surprisingly, Allard’s
favourite player isn’t a
forward. It’s Boston Bruins
captain Zdeno Chara.
“Because of his size,” she
added. She is also currently
studying criminology at the
University of Manitoba and
hopes to pursue a career in
law enforcement. On the ice,
Orchard hopes Allard will
stay on with the team for
at least one more season.
“This year, (the league)
tried a pilot project of overage
players,” the coach said. “If
all coaches like it, we may
keep it in the league and
then there’s a possibility
she’ll have another year.”
For now, Allard is enjoying
her time with the Blizzard
and in the MWJHL.
“Every game is fun,” she
said. “We don’t really have any
bad days. Even if we lose, we’re
still having a good time.” ❍
