EDITOR ’ S NOTE
HAPPY NEW YEAR ! NOW , GIVE ME MORE ART
As another year dawns on us , I am reminded that words are wonderful things . People hang on them . They love them , hate them , argue over them , praise their friends with them . Here at Game On
Magazine we use words to tell the stories of the young men and women who play hockey in Manitoba .
More important , however , are pictures . As Tom Thiessen , a brilliant magazine publisher once told me , “ They didn ’ t call it Sports Words , they called it Sports Illustrated .” I have never and will never forget those words .
Here at Game On , we have a group of six staff photographers , both full-time and part-time and you should know them as well as you know the athletes they capture every day .
James Carey Lauder teaches photography at Tec Voc High School and is also a fixture at Jets games . He provided us with the shots of Matt Calvert , Calvin Pickard and Adam Wowryk , in this issue and I ’ m sure you ’ ll agree , they ’ re brilliant .
Jeff and Tara Miller operate 100 Acre Woods Photography and they both shoot the Bisons , the Goldeyes and most of our amateur events . Jeff and Tara love their work and they both have that great eye for the big shot . Jeff took the cover photo of Brayden Foreman and also has this month ’ s Photo of the Month .
Bruce Fedyck is the talent behind M2RSPORTS . com . His business ad appears in this magazine and his enthusiasm for shooting hockey knows no bounds . He takes our RHA Nationals photos and has some great shots of Justin Nachbaur in this issue .
Rusty Barton shoots for Team Canada and is also a fixture , with Bruce and Carey , at Jets games . Rusty is an old pro .
Will Borys is a newcomer for us but he ’ s a regular Jets shooter for mytoba . ca and he provided us with some terrific shots of Scott Glennie and Calvin Pickard for this issue .
To all of our shooters , the folks who provide the photos for this magazine , we are deeply indebted . While words are certainly important , Game On Magazine does not shine without the brilliant pictures of our brilliant athletes .
