According to reports, Martin Scorsese is set to produce an origin film for The Joker. The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver. Phillips is set to direct, as well  as produce the film with Scorsese. The film will be set under a new, unnamed banner Warner Bros is creating to expand their cinematic universe. According to the scuttlebutt, It won’t feature any current iteration of the character. While Jared Leto is still presumably set to play the Joker in the current crop of DC films, this one will be going with a different, younger actor. And the reason for that is the setting. Supposedly, the film will be set in an early 80’s version of Gotham. As it’s meant to be a gritty origin story for the character, it’ll likely be much like Scorsese’s films from that period; Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and the like. My one suggestion? Don’t get another method actor to play The Joker. That said, reports also indicate that Scorsese was brought on as to entice Leonardo DiCaprio to join the project in some capacity.  That all said, there’s no hard date attached to the film yet, so we won’t know more for a while. Fox Angling for King of the Hill Revival Fox isn’t just stopping at The X-Files, Prison Break and 24. The network is in talks with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels to bring King of the Hill back to the network. And, it’s probably the best time for it, honestly. King of the Hill, ostensibly created to poke fun at conservatives, would also take a number of swipes at the liberal side of things. And it did so much better than The Goode Family. It did, however, do its best to retain realism, as opposed to shows like South Park or The Simpsons (yes, I laughed as I typed that show’s name). To this day, there are people in denial as to what PC Principal was meant to skewer, I’d imagine partially because the presentation is so harsh. So I’d expect a pillar of salt from both sides of out currently super polarized political climate. Pseudointellectuals on both sides are probably going to get bitchslapped King of the Hill worked, though, because Hank is a relatively well grounded, identifiable character. Even when you might not agree with a position he took you could understand it. He added an element of heart to the show that really made it something anyone could enjoy. Incluso si Peggy era algo odioso. So here’s hoping the King of the Hill revival is every bit as good as the first 8 seasons. Hell, even King of the Hill‘s seasonal rot was better than The Simpsons‘. I welcome this with open arms. 21 GAMBIT | SEPT/OCT | 2017 Martin Scorsese Working On Joker Origin Film For Warner Bros.
