The second half was a much tighter affair. The Galicians began the half playing with more intensity and were starting to
show their skills and abilities. They were moving the ball better
and were able to get a goal and two points in the second half.
The Irish girls were finding it more difficult to get scores and
also were having to defend much more than previously in the
game. However, the higher skill levels of the Irish girls came
out on top and they were able to get some excellent scores late
in the second half to ensure a comfortable win.
It was a good contest to watch and an excellent learning curve
for the Galicians going into the future.
GALICIAN MEN
4-10
IRELAND 4-17
The men’s game was a closer affair. The Galicians came out of
the blocks strongly and hit 3 points without reply in the first 5
minutes to leave the Irish wondering what was going on. However, this seemed to finally wake the Irish team up and they
managed to score 1-2 without reply in a quick time. The Irish

lads then continued to dominate the half, they were on top in
all positions and you could get the feeling the Galician players were feeling the pressure. Ireland completely dominated
the middle of the field and were able to get the ball inside to
dangerous scoring forwards which caused a real headache for
the Galician defense. Galicia did manage to grab a couple of
late points from frees to let the Irish know they were not going
down easily.
The second half was very different from the first. You got
the impression the Irish were confident and seemed to take
the foot off the gas. The Galicians were moving the ball well
and were finding space in the forward lines. They managed to
score 3 second half goals. However, the point scoring accuracy
and ability to kill the game from the Irish eventually meant
the Galicians would come up short on the night. It was a very
exciting game throughout.
This event once again highlighted how Galician GAA is
growing and has emerged as one of the most important Gaelic
football regions in the world outside of Ireland.
