Over the past few months the State Board of Pardons and Paroles' senior management team visited prison facilities operated by the Department of Corrections and a Day Reporting Center operated by the Department of Community Supervision.

Walker State Prison

Georgia parole officials took a tour of the Georgia Department of Corrections' Walker State Prison, a faith and character based facility. Clemency and Field Services staff for the Parole Board joined Exec. Deputy Director Rita Rocker as Warden Bruce Lee conducted the tour. Walker's program consists of four six-month phases for inmates to complete. Warden Lee and staff were very accommodating and it was evident that they run a great operation with a passion for assisting the inmates with accomplishing positive change.

Diagnostic & Classification SP

Senator Ed Harbison (D) and Senator Gail Davenport (D), both from the Georgia State Senate Committee on State Institutions and Property, took a tour of the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson in early October. While hosted by the Department of Corrections, parole staff accompanied the legislators and their staff. Deputy Executive Director of Parole Rita Rocker led the parole delegation during the visit. Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson welcomed the group.

Helms Facility

In September, Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett led a parole delegation to the Helms Facility operated by the Department of Corrections. Helms manages both pregnant females and medically challenged males. The 50-bed facility provides medical care for both populations, maintaining a safe and secure prison.

Elberton DRC

Parole Board Hearing Examiner Crystal Moon was the keynote speaker at the Georgia Department of Community Supervision Day Reporting Center graduation in Elberton. What an uplifting ceremony for a group of individuals who have worked so hard to get the upper hand on their addictions. Congratulations to all and wishing you all the best on your new day!
