offenders under parole supervision in Georgia. There were 2,024 Motivation, Assessment and Planning (MAP) Groups conducted during the fiscal year. The MAP Group assesses the offender’s risk of rearrest based on the research-based parole risk factors. Another key service component is the 7,938 Recovery Groups conducted by counselors. A successful discharge requires the parolee to attend a minimum of six consecutive sessions and continued negative drug tests.

Mental Health Services

Mental health treatment is one of many needs required for the successful community transition and long-term stability for the majority of parolees with mental health issues. As part of the Parole Board’s Reentry Services in FY15, transitional services were provided for those offenders with behavioral health needs transitioning from prison to the community.

In FY15, specialized parole officers were assigned to individuals with mental health needs in order to provide the required increased level of case management and community supervision.

In FY15, parole officers supervised a monthly average of 646 individuals with mental health disorders who were enrolled in treatment programming upon their release, and an average of 212 received monthly medication management supervision.

Housing for parolees with mental health disorders was made available through the Reentry Partnership Housing (RPH) Program. The RPH providers housing individuals with mental health needs receive increased funding for additional expenses incurred to include costs associated with transporting individuals to mental health appointments.

In FY15, six individuals with mental health disorders were transitioned into RPH, assisting in the stabilization of the parolees’ reentry process.
