SERVING THE NON PROFIT LIFE NON-PROFITS IN STEPHENS COUNTY STEPHENS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY The Stephens County Humane Society (SCHS) serves as a local advocate for our furry friends health and welfare and plays a pivotal role in finding loving owners for animals needing a good, stable home. SCHS is open for adoptions from 12-6 p.m. Tuesday and Friday; 12-4 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday; and 12-2 p.m. Sunday. Fees to adopt a pet are $100 for dogs and $75 for cats. SCHS has started a number of new programs like “Mondays Matter” where local businesses sponsor an animal’s adoption fee. Another popular program has been “Takeout Tuesday” where shelter dogs get to leave the Humane Society for a few hours to enjoy a day out. The “Reading Buddies” program is where children can read to the animals is done during the summer and over long school breaks. The humane society also hosts on-site pet adoptions the second and fourth Saturday of each month at Petco in Lawton. The society asks people consider the long-term financial implications and responsibilities – such as veterinarian visits, vaccinations, food, supplies and care – before adopting a new family member.
