CULTURE EXPANDING HORIZONS IN STEPHENS COUNTY STEPHENS COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM The Stephens County Historical Museum documents local history with artifacts and memorabilia from the early 20th century. The historical museum, housed in the old National Guard Armory at US 81 and Beech in Fuqua Park, was dedicated in 1971 and moved to this location in 1977. Extensive displays of everything from Native American arrowhead collections to fully realized one and two room schoolhouses are on display. The museum holds a permanent Halliburton exhibit with art, photos and items from the global oil and gas industry early days. The museum also hosts an annual quilt show and is home to county photography dating 16 DUNCAN MAGAZINE | FYI 2019 from 1892. The museum is free of charge to the public. CHISHOLM TRAIL HERITAGE CENTER Located just north of the Simmons Center at 1000 Chisholm Trail Parkway, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is not your typical “stop-and- stare” museum. It is an interactive adventure for cowboys and cowgirls of all ages. Awarded Oklahoma’s Attraction of the Year three times by the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association, Oklahoma’s Arts & Humanities Nonprofit of the Year by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, and as Oklahoma’s only nonprofit to hold the prestigious Great Expectations Model School Certification; the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is the stop in Duncan worth the time to bring friends and family or spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon. The Heritage Center is open seven days a week; Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is supported by membership funds, grants and contributions.
