A LETTER FROM ANURAG JAIN, NTFB BOARD CHAIR
Together, we will close the hunger gap in North Texas!
In North Texas, the need for hunger relief work continues to grow, and every day, more neighbors do not know
where they will find their next meal, or must make difficult choices – sacrificing medicine or other critical necessities
to put food on the table.
As board chair of the North Texas Food Bank, I am committed to closing the hunger gap in our community because
I strongly believe our neighbors do not have to be hungry. But I cannot do this work alone - closing the hunger gap
requires collaboration and community support. Last year, we provided access to almost 72 million nutritious meals
for our hungry neighbors. But there is still much work to be done.
In 2015 when we announced our 10-year plan to provide access to 92 million nutritious meals annually, we knew
it would require a strong commitment from our fellow hunger fighters to help us finish the fight. Last year we
welcomed Trisha Cunningham as our new president and CEO, and in 2018 under her leadership, opened a new,
state-of-the-art distribution center. After operating in a warehouse incompatible with the organizational evolution
needed to serve the growing population of hungry neighbors in North Texas, through the Stop Hunger Build Hope
capital campaign, we built the Perot Family Campus. This 230,000-square-foot facility provides the capacity needed
to serve a greater population having doubled dry food storage capacity and tripled refrigerated space to house
more fresh produce, dairy and frozen proteins. Your support made this possible, and together, we surpassed our
campaign goal, raising $55 million and achieving a major milestone as the largest capital campaign for a social
service organization in North Texas history. Although this campaign enabled organizational enhancements that have
propelled our critical work, our goal is to ensure all our neighbors have access to nutritious food, and we cannot rest
until that goal is met.
Yet through the strategic combination of new leadership, a new distribution center and an army of hunger fighters
growing by the day, I am confident we are well on our way to achieving our goal. Together we have already achieved
remarkable strides, and throughout the coming years, I know we will continue to help more hungry children, seniors
and families overcome hunger, and ultimately closes the hunger gap in North Texas.
