I intedviewed the detective sergeant Esa Pekkarinen about his job. In Finland, the criminal police officer can be studied in the Tampere’s Police College Of Fin, from wich all the police officers complete. Education lasts about 3 years and it includes theoretical studies and practical work placements. Criminal police officer education is free, Esa tells, accommodation, food, studying material and clothing. After the education, you can choose to be patrolman or criminal police. In criminal police you can specialize in violence-, economy-, propertyor traffic police. Special courses to them will be organized in Tampere. Criminal police officer’s job is mostly of people questioning, visiting at the crime places and getting proofs. It’s often a daytime job and the day lasts about 8 hours. The pay of the job is little bit more than 2000€. As a plus there will be personal work performance (profession of management, productiveness, teamwork, accuracy) and weekend works. Anyone 18-year fill normal, sane Finnish citizen, who has not crimes can be criminal police officer. Retirement age is nowadays 65 year, but Esa gets to retire in 58-yearold, because the retirement system was different then. At the end, Esa tells that in his opinion the job is very interesting but mentally heavy. Sometimes criminal police officer will face unpleasant things and drawbacks of life.
