Historic preservation - Is an endeavor that seeks to preserve, conserve and protect buildings, objects,
landscapes or other artifacts of historical significance. It tends to refer specifically to the preservation of
the built environment, and not to preservation of, for example, primeval forests or wilderness.
Holistic design - Holistic design is an approach to design which considers the system being designed as
an inte rconnected whole which is also part of something larger. Holistic concepts can be applied to
architecture as well as the design of mechanical devices, the layout of spaces, and so forth. This
