Trees intercept rainwater , reducing flooding
Branches can interfere with overhead cables
Trees provide habitats for birds , insects and small mammals
Large trees can absorb up to 100 gallons of water a day from the ground
Trees act as sound buffers , reducing noise pollution by as much as 40 %
All trees provide shelter and shade

STAG

A large campaign has been organised by STAG ,
Sheffield Tree Action Groups , to help save these healthy trees . I have been to a couple of their rallies to find out what it is all about !
On 7th January 2017 about 1,200 people gathered peacefully to circle Sheffield Town Hall as a ' human yellow ribbon '!

It was amazing and everyone stood in silence as the bells struck 12 .
Mature trees have even been shown to prevent crime
Trees ’ roots damage ground and pavements as well as underground pipes
Trees help recycle soil nutrients
