iWORDS Alliteration Alliteration is where words starting with the same letter or sound are used together in a sentence, such as Small, Square Snack. One 'Fantastically Friendly Fuser' has suggested you might see it outside a building on a sign that says: “My Marvellous Migrating Mammal Mansion”..! Alliteration can add interest to a description and brings a kind of drama even to a short title. Amusing Alliteration Activity... You could do either of these activities on you r own, with a friend, at school or even to brighten up a long car jou rney on you r way to a summer's day out. Have fun making up a poem that uses alliteration! Each line could focus on a different letter. Here's one we made up! Busy, buzzing bees Tickle tall trees With waving wings. Seven sparrows sing. Mnemonics • Learning a sentence where the first letter of each word stands for something. An old one for the colour sequence of a rainbow is “Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain”. Richard and Red begin with R. Of stands also for the O in Orange. York = Yellow, and so on. With spellings, for example 'because' = Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants.
