TOM GATES: YES! NO (MAYBE…)
by Liz Pichon
Book 9 in the hilarious, bestselling series is now here!
Yes - don’t worry - there are plenty of the much-loved crazy
sketches running through each page! These illustrations are
great for Fusers who love lots to look at whilst reading. They
seem to tell the story to your brain on a whole other level.
“It’s the car boot sale and Mum’s all excited. Will I be able to
find a scooter (YES!), get grumpy Delia out of her room (NO)
and save my comic book collection (Maybe…)”
-The irrepressible Tom Gates is back in another wacky
instalment. What on Earth could happen this time..?!
THE ART BOOK FOR CHILDREN
by Gilda Williams Ruggi & Amanda Renshaw
This unusual book will be of interest to Fusers of all ages – and
with all sorts of interests. Each colourful page challenges you to
discover the story and emotions behind a piece of art, as well as
introducing 30 great Artists.
What is that person looking at in the painting? Why did
the Sculptor work at such a strange angle? How does that
photograph make me feel?
Packed with cool questions and bite-sized facts, we love this
‘White Book’ (Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Andy Warhol’s
Marilyn and modern 3D artists like Donald Judd). Also look out
for the second ‘Yellow Book’ and our iArts page 5.
ZOE’S BOAT
by Gillian McClure
This beautiful book links in with our illustrated storywriting
pages 14-16. Zoe’s Boat is illustrated in watercolour using an
interesting frame format. The way the text, drawings and
frames flow together gives a really fun, graphic novel effect.
We just know it will inspire Fusers to create their own story
books using a mixture of ‘writing and painting’ or ‘speech
bubbles and cartoons’, for example. The lovely little story is
one of friendship between an adventurous young girl who
wants to run away to sea...and her characterful ‘Dear Old
Dog’. We think you will get a lot from this book even though
the storyline itself is aimed at the younger reader.
