FACT FILE : Albert Einstein BORN: 1879, Germany DIED: 1955, United States FAMOUS FACTS: Albert Einstein is one of the most important scientists who ever lived. He was a Theoretical Physicist and is celebrated in this year's International Year of Light since it is now 100 years since he calculated that E=mc2. Einstein's ideas are mindblowing! Put simply, E=mc2 means that even small amounts of mass can be changed into enormous amounts of energy. -Plus, if you could travel at almost the speed of light, time would slow down! AWARDS: Nobel Prize in Physics, 1921 FRIGHTENING FACT: Albert Einstein was a Jew. At that time the German Nazi Party led by Adolf Hitler was making things extremely difficult for Jews. They even set fire to Einstein's books and named him as an enemy, so in 1933 he fled to safety in the United States. FUN FACT: Einstein was a brilliant musician, especially on the violin. He is quoted as saying “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music."
