A R T • AT H L E T I C S D AY JAYDA SHARAF – EGYPTIAN AND SOUTH AFRICAN SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMER Jayda grew up in Sharm el Sheikh until she was 7 and Hurghada till we moved to Cairo summer 2010. She joined Sun Valley Primary at the beginning of this year and has taken to the school like a fish to water. Her sporting journey began when she was 5 years old, while on summer vacation in Cairo, she was spotted watching the gymnastics and was invited to join the Gezira Gymnastics team. She spent two months building strength, coordination and flexibility. She proved to be particularly talented at dance and has developed into a very good choreographer (she choreographs her own winning routines). She trained almost daily and for hours and hours, for two years before she got her first gold medal and recognition. HER ACHIEVEMENTS AS FOLLOWS March 2013 Egyptian Nationals U12 1 x Gold Medal 2 Jack Rutherford doing a great job serving the guests March | April 2014 x Silver Medals (1st Team event, 2nd Combo event and placed 3rd in the country for individual figures). December 2013 South African National Age Groups 2 x Gold Medals 1 x trophy (1st Individual Figures, 1st Solo performance and trophy for overall 12 and under winner) She also competed in the 13 to 15 age group Figures and took 4th place overall February 2014 Western Province Regional Championships 2 x Gold Medals (1st Individual Figures, 1st Solo performance. She is currently training with the Western Province team for the South African Senior National Championships in April 2014 and is the youngest member of her team and will swim in the 13 to 15 year age group. She has also been chosen (unofficially, as the announcement hasn’t been made yet) to represent South Africa at the Comen Cup Games in Greece in June 2014. Creative Expression ...
