Bringing fresh focus to the TSA
SINCE TAKING OVER DIRECTORSHIP OF THE TANK STORAGE ASSOCIATION ( TSA ) IN 2016 , PETER DAVIDSON HAS BEEN ON A MISSION TO RAISE ITS PROFILE WITH INDUSTRY , GOVERNMENT AND RELEVANT AGENCIES – BRINGING FRESH FOCUS TO THE ASSOCIATION ’ S LOBBYING AND ADVOCACY ROLE
Nationwide TSA members operate over 250 terminals and as the UK economy faces increasing uncertainty , first Brexit then this month ’ s snap general election , the bulk liquid storage sector is ever more reliant on this support .
Questions about future legislation , regulation and market stability are sure to be at the forefront of discussions about the future , so the industry ’ s ability to engage with government on these topics is of paramount importance .
Support for a critical component in the supply chain “ The bulk liquid storage sector is a critical component in the supply chain for many diverse industries , from transport fuels to animal feeds ,” said Peter .
“ The demand for storage capacity is growing and we , as a sector , need to ensure that any barriers to growth are tackled to ensure the sector can meet the demand placed upon it .
“ We recently responded to the government ’ s green paper on building our industrial strategy , highlighting regulation , planning and business rates as areas for potential improvements to help business .”
Smaller terminals and suppliers To renew awareness and develop its membership the TSA has widened its inclusivity by launching an Associate Membership Scheme for smaller terminals and suppliers . Associate members play an essential role in safety , health and environmental matters . Together with full members they share and learn from operational experience , new products , innovation , services and where relevant contribute to the development of new guidance .
New moves In January the TSA took up residency of its first offices , providing a permanent home and a place to meet . It also launched a new logo , website and increased its social media presence , bringing a fresh look with improved ease of use for members , associate members and attendees of the annual TSA conference & exhibition .
This year the TSA conference program will tackle the topics that are of most relevance to the bulk liquid storage sector and its suppliers , including presentations on future regulation and cyber security . As ever , COMAH will be a key focus , however Brexit and the apprenticeship levy are also high on the agenda .
Also at this year ’ s event , which takes place at the Ricoh Arena on Thursday 28th September , 62 suppliers will showcase the very latest innovations and technological advancements . www . tankstorage . org . uk

“ With the publication of BS 5410 Part 3 , which requires critical generators to have a certified SAE J1488 _ 2010-10 filtration system , a new field in the area of fuel polishing and self-cleaning tank designs has opened up .
“ Developed over the last 10 years , OTS has a self-cleaning tank design with a V-shaped primary tank floor ; sparge pipes connected to a circulation pump and filter make it much easier to keep tank and fuel clean .
“ Together with the FPS we ’ re relaunching the FPS Fuel Quality Certification Scheme which gives distributors independent proof that their fuel is of good quality – proving your fuel is clean has never been more important .”
