Tanks 2017

Talking to the people behind the tanks

AT LAST MONTH ’ S FPS EXPO FUEL OIL NEWS TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHAT WITH THE EIGHT TANK COMPANIES EXHIBITING AT THIS YEAR ’ S EVENT . IT WAS PLEASING TO HEAR THE CURRENT TANK MARKET DESCRIBED AS ‘ BUOYANT ’ AND TO LEARN OF AREAS OF PARTICULAR GROWTH AND NEW INNOVATIONS . WHILST THE RECENTLY LAUNCHED TANK SAFE INITIATIVE ( FON MAY 2017 PAGE 4 ) WAS VERY MUCH WELCOMED , SOME CONCERNS WERE EXPRESSED ABOUT ITS POTENTIAL EFFECTIVENESS
Jill Turner , sales co-ordinator at Carbery Plastics with Davant ’ s business development manager Terry Groves and area sales manager , Neil Messam
Richard Marsh , director , Envirostore Tanks attends his 8th FPS EXPO in a row

“ “

“ Carbery ’ s partnership with Davant is going well and , with the ability to distribute nationwide , sales are going from strength to strength .
“ Tank Safe is brilliant – we ’ re here to help and happy to promote so it ’ s rolled out everywhere . Changes take time in Ireland but AdBlue is growing and it ’ s now bunded tanks all the way for Carbery .
“ We have a new 650 litre bunded tank on show – this is a great size for householders using a solar / oil heating combination and , next year we hope to introduce another new tank size .”
John Reynolds , sales manager at Cookson & Zinn
“ It ’ s a lively tank market and we ’ re picking up distribution business . Although , due to the price drop , exploration business has slowed down , there are some positive signs with conversations about tanks for this sector .
“ Whilst there ’ s not much you can do with a tank to make it more sexy and attractive , more owners are looking at lining their tanks for longevity , particularly in the diesel market due to the bio content . With their 1:50 slope enabling the regular removal of contaminants and sludge , our BioBase storage tanks are popular . “ Some retail sites are asking for above ground tanks but it ’ s not a huge increase ; most retail sites still prefer to bury tanks .”
“ Oil is still the most cost effective fuel for heating , boilers are more efficient and tank materials are excellent . As long as tanks are bunded , well-installed and secure . all is good and positive for the industry .
“ We ’ re pleased to see the Tank
Safe initiative but we would like to see the rest of the UK follow the Welsh storage regulations introduced in March 2016 ; due to its bunding requirements our business has increased in Wales .
AdBlue is a targeted growth area for us and having introduced the inner spill tray , we ’ re happy to look at any product that makes oil storage safer .”

“ The market has slowed down recently but that could be just down to the time of the year ….
“ Tank Safe is a good start but it ’ s not enough . Too many installers are telling customers that their tank is not complaint , the customer ignores this and the tank continues to be filled .
“ Whilst many oil companies ensure the safe filling of a tank , the tank ’ s condition and its poor installation are often overlooked – single skin domestic tanks in excess of 3,500 litres should have been replaced with bunded after 2005 but they ’ re still out there .
“ We need everyone to sing from the same hymn sheet and to have a robust system to report unsafe tanks and one that the Environment Agency can also access .”
Wendi Whittle , sales manager at J Seed by the company ’ s Firecheck tank which has LABC approval
