Tankers 2017 The 2016 Fuel Oil News tanker of the year A flexible and versatile winner “This is a truly versatile and flexible vehicle and I’m really happy that it’s a winner,” said Wilton Transport’s general manager Gary Branch. “Based on my design, a lot of work went into this Mini- Tankers vehicle, with considerable input coming from Tasca Tankers and Mechtronic.. Compared with the vehicles used when Wilton Transport first started in 2007, this vehicle is fantastic. “Specifically tailored to suit the demands of our commercial and industrial customers, the vehicle can be used together or separately, with the ability to leave the trailer to act as a fuel pod at a customer’s site. “The prime mover carries 19,000 litres whilst the trailer has a 16,000 litre capacity. The vehicle can offer standard bulk and also deliveries down to 10 litres; approved by Trading Standards, the latter is ideal for equipment such as fork lift trucks and generators at construction sites. “Over a period of 5 years, we’ve been developing our software so it can identify the fuel usage for each piece of equipment a customer uses. This puts us into a niche market where customers appreciate such information along with instant tickets, online invoices that arrive within minutes of delivery and access to a web-based customer portal.” “Tasca Tankers is delighted to be the recipient of the Fuel Oil News 2016 tanker of the year award,” said Shaun Harte. “Having worked closely with Wilton Transport for many years, we were very pleased to work alongside them on this special prime mover and drag trailer. With its optimised weight saving design, this new Mini-Tankers vehicle provides maximum capacity.” A positive picture at Tasca and Maidment “With a promising order book for 2017, we were exceptionally busy throughout 2016. Margins continue to be tight and Brexit would seem to suggest that this trend will continue,” said Shaun Harte. “We continue to focus on fuel oil/aviation fuel transport and have introduced some unique weight-saving designs to our products which enable higher capacity tanks within legal limits. “Brexit has had an impact on costings with all aluminium and, some ancillary equipment, being purchased in euros. However, we’ve endeavoured to keep price increases to a minimum, while still maintaining the high quality of our products. “Trailers were strong again in 2016 and although we’ll never be a multi-national supermarket supplier, we’ve found that independent owners seem to appreciate the ‘over engineering’ inbuilt on the Tasca trailer. “Ireland continues to grow year on year, with Jones Oils and TOP in the Republic and Go Petroleum/LCC and Nicholl Oils in the North ordering in numbers again. “Although the picture for the year ahead looks positive, we’ll continue to build a limited number of stock rigid trucks and trailers for customers who have an urgent requirement.” This 12,000 litre four-compartment tanker for National Grid is mounted on a DAF LF 220 Euro 6 chassis/daycab with the ability to self-load through the high level cut off Fuel Oil News | February 2017 13
