The Special Collections and Archives at Framingham State University were established in the early 1970s in order to collect, preserve, and provide access to materials that reflect the history and development of the University. Such materials include non-current University records, publications, photographs, videos, manuscripts, rare books, and ephemera. The Special Collections and Archives are open to researchers both within and beyond the Framingham State University community.

Framingham State University was founded by Horace Mann in 1839 as the first state-supported school in the United States for the education of teachers. Today, Framingham State University is situated on a beautiful 73-acre campus in the suburban town of Framingham, Massachusetts, a community 20 miles west of Boston. At Framingham State University, our tradition of teacher education is combined with a broad spectrum of liberal arts programs and the very best of advanced technology.
