Framingham State University began as Lexington Normal School, the very first state normal school in the United States. The university is the first of its kind--a pioneer institution. It has seen many of its graduates go on to make great strides for

education, carrying on a tradition of excellence and innovation.

This magazine celebrates the men and women of Framingham State who were pioneers, who made substantial contributions to the school or the world at large by being the “first” in the field. We celebrate the first principal, the first woman principal and president, the first teacher in space, the founders of the YWCA, the Royal Normal College in London, and normal schools in Argentina and Turkey, the first male class and so many more!

This is just a selection of the wonderful students and faculty that have walked the campus through the years. Framingham State University is home to so many impressive people who have gone on to very successful careers, or made very worthy contributions to our college. Come experience a glimpse into Framingham State’s rich history!
