PRECIPITATING FACTORS FOR THE REGGIO EMILIA VNA: The optimal clinical pathway for our province often moves patients from one of our 10 rural hospitals to the hub hospital, and then back to their peripheral hospitals or even to their homes. This clinical pathway requires increased collaboration among geographically distributed clinicians, each of whom needs access to the complete patient record. Reggio Emilia was asked to resolve a multitude of small IT data requests, highly specialized, mostly media or specialized data sets—complex, yet too small to be handled economically one at a time. Regulatory—European legislation requires ready availability of all data—upon patient request. Growing patient interest in acquiring this data leads to the need to store it intelligently. Evidence-based medicine and research puts increasing demand on availability of original data. BRAINSTORM: VNA—in one elegant sweeping solution—could resolve all these needs—economically and expeditiously!
