PHYSICIAN ATTITUDE.
It may be easier for a clinician to follow current workflows and to use the
excuse “I don’t have the time to go look, so I’m just going to repeat the test.”
Financial pressure of the cost of unnecessary tests will force this culture to
change.
CLINICIAN CULTURE.
You have to have a culture where the physician will go look for the image. If
the prevailing attitude is, “We didn’t do it here,” or “I like my guy,” at some
point there’s a cost to this that’s intolerable, both in patient safety, and in
dollars. “I think the culture has to change—to go look to see if the test has
been done and if it’s available.”
