“What happened?” Isaac asked Albert. “I think I spun too quickly, and the centrifugal force threw the robot over.” “I’ve got an idea to fix that.” Instead of arguing and throwing blame around, their conversation was focusing on how to solve the problem! Immediately after the match was over, Isaac and Albert raced to the pits and began installing a small-back wheelie bar. We competed in the rest of the match, and finished with about as many wins as losses. We competed more during that year, always finishing in about the middle of the pack. Isaac and Albert worked on their robot and honed their strategy and driving skills. We then packed up to compete at the Technology Student Association State Competition. As we drove to Bellevue, we talked about wanting to be successful and what we thought we would experience. Never having done this before, I had no idea what we were walking into. When we arrived, we checked in our robot and found our rooms in the hotel. That night, Isaac and Albert went scouting. Our first match was at 8:30 in the morning. That next morning, competition started, and Isaac and Albert juggled their times at
