Philanthropy Update

The Developing Leaders Fall Philanthropy event
was hosted this past November in the St . Vincent de Paul Urban Farm . Our DL ’ s rolled up their sleeves to do some farming and laying down many wheelbarrows of mulch . We also had St . Vincent de Paul ’ s resident expert , Tony Kasowkski , educate us on sustainability and the importance of farming . He also gave us a tour of the aquaponic farm , where they raise tilapia and micro greens .
This event had a second part , where the DL ’ s under the guidance of Development Officer Ryan Corry and Executive Director Stephen Zabilski . The DL ’ s were brought into a leadership role to teach young kids who had just done some volunteer work in the food bank with their families . An anonymous donor had recently given St . Vincent de Paul a large monetary donation that they wanted used towards teaching children the impact they have of giving back . Each DL was paired with a few children and each child was given $ 300 to select from the “ Compassion Catalog ” of impactful items ( such as a bed , dental work , food , etc ) that added to that amount or they could pool their money together to donate one large catalog item . Afterwards , we kicked back for a wonderful ( and earned ) brunch at the Vig Fillmore , where we got to network , relax , and be thankful for being part of such a great charity and organization . The event was a huge success and fulfilled our mission this November of giving thanks and giving back to our community !
