Preston Hazzard , assistant director of fine arts , supports the concept that fine arts participation builds stronger , more well-rounded students .

He notes that colleges look for students who stick with a program – whether it ’ s a sport , orchestra , band , dance , visual art , theatre or choir – for all four years of high school . Four years in a program indicates the student has developed a sense of commitment , determination and grit , he said . The District ’ s elementary honor choir is a great start to developing a sense of commitment to practice .

“ This is really something special . Students are going to grow as people , as musicians and artists by being involved in any of the fine arts programs we have in FISD ,” said Hazzard , noting that there are many opportunities from kindergarten through high school .

Members of the District Elementary Honor Choir are beginning to understand the sacrifices and the rewards involved in making beautiful music together .

It is evident in their performance . •
