Friendship across Cultures Vol. 1 | Page 7

Based on all the above reasons, my colleague (Celeste Simões from Portugal) and myself started to discuss and plan for projects to connect our schools and students to each other. The start was through exchanging letters (two terms) in which our students talked about themselves, their countries, cities and cultures. The involvement and commitment of our students in the project pushed us to think of more creative ideas. The second step was having students work together and write one document for each pair. The process involved critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, imagination, negotiation and conflict management.

The main conclusion that we can draw from this experience is that it is possible to have bigger impact in the world. We can promote world peace and mutual understanding between the people of the world if we continue to minimize distance and help these young minds communicate and share ideas and knowledge. Therefore we encourage more colleagues to think globally in order to make education the main tool to promote human values and provide the world with more peace ambassadors.
