Friendship across Cultures Vol. 1 | Page 3

Celeste Simões was selected to participate in the IVLP project on “Connecting English Teachers with U.S. History and Culture” that took people from twenty three countries from around the world, to the United States, to meet with their American counterparts. Celeste’s program did not end in 2014.  This publication is a proof of the long lasting relationships that emerged from Celeste’s participation in the U.S. Department of State professional exchange program that brought together two Alumni teachers of English and their respective students in a common goal that bridged cultures by connecting the youth in Portugal and Morocco.

It is our great pleasure to highlight the initiative of Celeste Simões, which came as result of her participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program in 2014.  The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Participants are nominated and selected annually by the U.S. Embassies around the world.
