Friendship across Cultures Vol. 1 | Page 16

Daniela’s Perspective

Being able to talk to my friend Salma, allowed me to get to know more about the Muslim culture and more about Morocco! We loved the project because it really helped us realize that even if two people are from different countries and cultures that does not get in the way of creating a friendship!

We were so happy when we discovered about the project that our classes were about to do and we were really thrilled about it, because we loved the idea! The project started just with letters that we would send from a class in Portugal to a class in Morocco. I remember that after the first letter I tried to find my friend Salma on some social network right away. I found her on Whatsapp and on Instagram. I was so glad that I could talk to her more often and on another platform without being through letters. I liked her immediately because she was super nice and I was surprised with the amazing ability she had to make me feel like we were friends for a long time! It was

always easy to communicate because we were always on some social network. Knowing more about her country left me very curious and wishing I could go and visit Morocco!

This world creates so many barriers where there could be none, we should learn to deal with our differences and learn with them not to destroy the differences between all of us but learn with them and grow as a person by standing next to the others and respect their cultures and not just our own. We think that this is a project that every student in every single school should do, because this is so important and so interesting. We don't see a reason for people to be against peace between countries and in fact we are the generation of the future, so doing projects like this one would help us to be a better generation and a peaceful one as well!

I hope that I will continue to stay in touch with my good friend Salma, a friend that is far away from me but that will always be in my heart!

Friendship Across Cultures

We think that this image explains what it is to have a friendship between cultures. It actually reminded me of one time that Salma and I were talking and I was in bed ready to go to sleep that night and she was the last person I talked to. It was a really wonderful talk and because of that night, and also other conversations we had, we became friends and I couldn’t be happier!
