BLOOD
In a “covenant of obligation” (two-sided), both parties would take the oath. If one defaulted the
other was released from his obligation, but in Genesis 15:9-21, God obligated Himself Alone! He
is depicted as a “smoking fire pot with a blazing torch” passing between the pieces ALONE. The
covenant of Blessing made with Abraham is tied to the coming of Jesus, the Christ (salvation,
redemption, healing, prosperity) and is too much important to be dependent upon human obedience, obligation and faithfulness. God Himself will bring it to pass.
Even though Abraham put the covenant in jeopardy – Sarah (Pharoah’s harem; Ablimelech – lying spirit – bloodline in jeopardy). Ishmael (human effort to realize God’s promise); Issac
(supernatural effort to keep the covenant) – God obligates Himself!
With every covenant God gave a sign.
