W HEN IT COMES TO sand dune riding, Glamis Dunes are where it’s at. Located in the Imperial Valley, Glamis is one of the biggest off-road recreational areas in southern California, with hundreds of thousands of people going to the dunes every year to hoon around on dune buggies and dirt bikes and camp out in RVs. Glamis is one of the birthplaces of freeriding and subsequently FMX. Originally a place where racers would go to play-ride, the dunes quickly became known as the place you could go big – really big, due to the huge, soft landings and long run ups found in the natural formation of the dunes. Glamis soon became the prime spot for freeriders, top racers and FMX riders shooting sections for videos like the Crusty Demons of Dirt series. Over the years the dunes have been graced with the presence of a complete ‘who’s who’ list of moto legends. As well as hosting legends, these dunes have also created them. One defining moment that both instantly put Glamis on the map and exploded a rider’s career, was at the end of Seth Enslow’s stand-out section in Crusty Demons of Dirt One, where he over-shot a dune gap by about 150ft and absolutely ate it! He then mumbled the famous line: “I’ll go to a doctor if I need to, I don’t need to right now.” Ever since that moment Glamis has been the stuff epic video parts are made of. With an endless choice of jumps and camera angles, as well as its unique, picturesque landscape, Glamis really allows people to think outside the box and get creative. It is therefore no wonder so many riders and film-makers alike keep returning to these incredible dunes, in the hope of capturing those epic sunset bangers! u £ B.J.
