W
ELCOME TO ISSUE NUMBER 8 of FreestyleXtreme Magazine!
When my dad called me at work the other day to ask if I’d seen
a video on the internet of a man surfing a wave on a dirt bike,
I knew Robbie Maddison’s Pipe Dream had gone truly viral.
I was lucky enough to meet and interview Maddo late last year
at Rock the Ramp in Belgium. When I asked him what new
projects he was working on following DC’s Air.Craft, he had a
cryptic answer for me:
“There’s a project that I have been working on for a couple of years and it’s something totally
different from anything else you’ve seen. It still uses the motorcycle, but in a whole new way,
so I’m excited to be working on that and to see what we can do to entertain people around the
world.”
It’s cool to finally know what he meant! And entertain people around the world he did. Once again
Maddo managed to open people’s minds to what’s possible on a dirt bike in an insanely cool and
imaginative way. As such we were stoked to award Maddo his second FreestyleXtreme Magazine
cover shot. Check out the epic behind-the-scenes photo gallery from Pipe Dream on page 90.
Also in this issue you’ll find our exclusive feature on the FEST Series. The new rider-run MTB
series has blown up this year, and the guys are taking freeride mountain biking to a whole new
level. It’s awesome to see the crew pushing their sport in the direction they want it to go and
putting the focus back on the riding.
Legit rider-run events are something we don’t see enough of these days, and the FEST crew
have definitely done it right! In a time when it’s easy for pro riders to settle for riding demos or
established events, these guys have stepped away from the norm and chosen their own line. The
FEST edits are also some of the raddest videos on the internet right now; so if you haven’t seen
any yet I strongly recommend you check them out - the POV videos make your stomach drop just
watching them. You can read Simon Makker’s full article on the Fest Series on page 78.
I hope you enjoy this issue!
