Tom Pagès’
revolutionary
ultra-lightweight
FMX bike debuted

A
T THE OPENING ROUND
of the 2015 Red Bull
X-Fighters World Tour
in Mexico City, Tom
Pagès unveiled his latest
contribution to the progression of
freestyle motocross – his custom-built,
carbon fiber covered YZ250.
The idea for this groundbreaking FMX
bike was thought up by Tom himself,
but the build was carried out by French
company Drag’on Tek in association
with Yamaha France.
According to Red Bull, the concept
for the bike came about after Tom
addressed the problem of how to
generate the high levels of power
needed from his bike in order to
perform crazy tricks such as the Alleyoop Flair and the Bike Flip, as well as
future tricks still in the concept stage.
Tom realised that the only way to
achieve this was to reduce the overall
weight of the bike. Less weight means
less work for the bike’s engine, so the
goal became obvious - make the bike
as light as possible.
“I believe it’s the lightest bike ever
to be used in competition anywhere
- certainly in Red Bull X-Fighters
history,” said Tom’s mechanic
Guillaume Davion, who personally
handcrafted the modifications. “The
overall weight is 15 kilograms lighter
than the bike Tom was riding last year,
which was about 100 kilos.”
