Not bad for someone who’d never won an MXGP moto, and doing it in front of a riotous home crowd was incredible. Can’t see Max ever having to buy a drink at the Nations again. £ With how close Max Anstie and Jeff Herlings ran in the final round of the MXGP, I probably should have expected to see the two of them leading the line at Matterley. Max’s luck has never been the best at the Nations, and a mid-air collision in quali on Saturday looked like disappointment might be on the way. A back-marker cut across Anstie mid-whip, throwing down both riders hard. My heart sank thinking I was watching the end of Team GB’s weekend, but Max brushed himself off and was straight back on the bike – losing only a couple of spots and qualifying a respectable fourth.
