FIRING UP
THE GRILL
WITH DJ BBQ
a
Interview by: Adam Simpson
The summer’s here and whether you’re at the track, on the beach or just
sitting in your yard, barbeque is the way to go. Our mate DJ BBQ has made
it his presonal crusade to up everyone’s outdoor grilling game - and his new
book is sure to revolutionise trackside campsites the world over. We sat him
down for some choice tips.
C
HRISTIAN STEVENSON AKA
DJ BBQ is quickly turning
into something of a Grilling
God! The Pit Boss from
the US now resides in England,
and is creating a smokey storm
in the BBQ world. Christian has
a long history in the world of
action sports. From his early
days of making snowboard films
and presenting TV shows such
as RAD and Freesports on 4,
he can now be found MCing at
the biggest snowboard, FMX,
MX and skateboard events in
the country, DJing at high profile
parties for clients such as Bill
‘Microsoft’ Gates and doing voice
overs for video games like Dirt
106 | FreestyleXtreme
18 | FreestyleXtreme
amongst loads of other insanely
cool projects. Lately his focus
has shifted to his new role as DJ
BBQ on Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube
channel, where he makes the
raddest cooking shows out there.
Basically the phrase ‘fingers in
pies’ doesn’t begin to do this guy
justice.
We tapped Christian up to find
out a bit more about his passions
for smoking and grilling, and even
managed to get him to drop one
of his sickest recipes of all time
for us – his famous ‘Rad Rum
Ribs’ - so make sure you try it out
next time you fire up the grill!
What’s up DJ BBQ? Summer’s
here in the UK! How excited
are you to get out grilling in the
sun?
I’m super stoked to be grilling
in the sun. I smoke and grill in
all conditions but sunnier climes
are better for cold beer and I like
pulling an ice cold bottle of beer
out of the cooler when working
the grill. When you pop that top,
it’s the sound of jealousy.
Is BBQing something you’ve
always been into or is this a
relatively new venue for you?
I’ve been BBQ’n since the age of
