DarkFest / Sam Reynolds
So how did you meet Matt Macduff?
At Vienna Air King - there used to be a
contest here like back in the day in front
of the church and stuff.
We met there, actually, and sort of
weren’t really sure of each other to start
with. Then we just instantly got on the
next day and, yeah, we just hung out
since then all the time.
So who else is in the Pure Darkness
crew?
I guess, the original crew is me,
Macduff, Danny Pace, and then that
evolved, a few more people came to
number two. Andreu [Lacondeguy]
came for number three. For this one,
we thought the FEST Series and Pure
Darkness video series were there for
exactly the same reasons. We wanna
make exactly the same stuff, so we
kinda teamed up and made a bit of a
combo of doom.
That’s cool, man. So is it kind of your
passion project?
Yes, completely, it’s all I was thinking
about all winter. The dream jumps, the
dream to just make a video and invite
whoever you want. There were only
eight spots or whatever but yeah it
could be the eight best guys turn up.
Did any of it come from your
experiences at Rampage? Doing this
yourself you have control of the lines
and most importantly the risk...
Well that’s the best thing about the
FEST series, we’re there for a week
at least. There isn’t a strict timetable
because if there’s a bit of wind it
doesn’t work, or if there’s a bit of rain
it doesn’t work - you can’t ride those
jumps all day because it’s so far to the
top.
You kind of only do an hour or two
hours at a time because they’re pretty
gnarly and you can’t keep going, so we
actually only film when the conditions
are perfect, which is why it’s spread in
out over the whole week. u
