Y
ou just landed from New
Zealand, what were you up to
there?
Well the team I ride for - the Polygon
world cup Downhill team - they’re
based in Queenstown in New
Zealand, so every year we go there
and do things like suspension testing
and setup. It’s more for those guys
but I come to film a video and stuff
with them and they do suspension
testing, tyre testing and all sorts.
You posted some stunning shots on
Instagram of a turn you guys were
sessioning by a lake...
Yeah that place is the best, man -
it’s a terrible turn but it’s legendary
because everyone has to go there for
a picture. It’s not a good turn at all,
and everyone knows about it.
We love Pure Darkness edits - the
road trip one stands out, very old-
school and Crusty Demons style
edit - what was the inspiration and
where did that concept come from?
Exactly that. Too many edits these
days are just too much slow-mo and
not very cool tunes - tunes that didn’t
make us wanna ride and videos that
didn’t make us wanna ride. They’re
more about the filming and the
production quality than the going big
and the fun factor.
We just went for a week of going
wherever you want, sleeping wherever
you want and trashing yourselves and
that was it.
It reminded me of the old Metal
Mulisha film, Mentally Twisted, or
the early Twitch and Scummy stuff...
The soundtrack was a big part too -
we had that Judas Priest tune, it was
me and Macduff’s favourite song and
we were like, “one day we’ll do an
edit so crazy we’re allowed to use this
song”, cause it’s like six minutes or
seven minutes long. Halfway through
the week we were like, “do you think
this is the one?” u

dwarfs the ‘loop of doom’,
which itself is about twice
the height of you average
house.
