Matt Macduff
to prove which one’s the sickest.
Now they’re all just so gnarly and
awesome that death is right around
the corner in any of them. Yeah, with
companies I’m sure no one wants to
be associated with death, right?
That’s why I think the Nitro Games
is going to be really interesting – X
Games moved away from whocan-go-biggest Best Trick events
a while ago, but Nitro are putting it
back on the agenda...
I think they’re just on a whole other
level, man. I think Travis is going,
“okay, well, if these companies are
going to back out, I’m going to step in
because I want to see how far action
sports can go”.
One hundred percent, man. Are
you holding out for an invite to
Pastranaland?
My mom says I’m not allowed to go but I’m twenty-five, so we’ll see.
The loop would have been
something Travis could be proud
off. How long did it take to build
that monster?
It took four weeks to build. It was
supposed to take two, but in the end
it took four. We didn’t know what we
were getting into. We thought it was
going to be like Nova Scotia, but as
you go bigger the amount of extra
work needed is exponential. When
you build big structures - when you
build anything over thirty feet tall - it’s
so crazy, man.
Have you got any background in
construction or are you learning as
you go?
I don’t really have much of a
background in construction. Before
being out east, I didn’t really even
know how to work a chainsaw or a
drill - I just learned that by myself in
the woods.
It got to the point where I knew I
couldn’t build these structures any
more. But one of my best friends is
an insane carpenter – and I’d say the
best ramp builder in eastern Canada.
He’s always up for helping and just
loves the way I live and we get along
so well. He’ll ask what I have planned
for the summer, and if I mention I’m
thinking of building something, he’s
like, “cool, I’ll come over for a month
and we’ll build it”. It’s just always
been like that – and if he ever gets
tired of his job, he’ll come visit me
wherever I am. It’s awesome. u
