[2011] Gymkhana Four “The Hollywood Megamercial” A new production team, including director Ben Conrad (who would oversee Gyms 4-8), redefined what Gymkhana could be. They took the series away from aerodromes and practise tracks and introduced a little narrative to proceedings. Not all fans were immediately sold on the idea, but the extra character on display helped lay the foundations for future editions. [2012] Gymkhana Five “Ultimate Urban Playground: San Francisco” The first of the ‘city-hopping’ Gymkhanas, Gym 5 was able to make a few nods to Steve McQueen’s famous chase through the city while pulling off stunts that would probably snap a ‘68 Mustang in half. It’s still one of our favourites, but that might have as much to do with the fact that San Francisco appears to have been designed by a roller coaster technician. [2013] Gymkhana Six “Ultimate Gymkhana Grid Course” Gym 6 was a bit of a throwback, pitting Ken’s ‘13 Fiesta ST RX43 against an elaborate harbour-side setup of ramps, containers and, yes, a spiked wrecking ball. £ Gymkhana 8 saw a noticable jump in scale, as Ken swapped donuts around tram cars (above) for drifting around a jumbo jet.
