£ For 2016, the MXoN returned to Maggiora in Italy for
the first time since 1986. The ’86 event is remembered
fondly by American fans, falling in the middle of a
prolonged period of dominance for the USA.
But in recent years it’s been France taking home the
Chamberlain Trophy, and they were looking to make it
three in a row with a win in north-west Italy. USA’s team
of Cooper Webb, Alex Martin and Jason Anderson (with
Anderson in for Justin Barcia and Alex replacing his
brother Jeremy from last year’s lineup), were looking for
their first win since 2011 and well fancied to make that
happen. The French weren’t going to give up without a
fight, however, and the Dutch and Belgian teams were
also poised for an upset.
