INTERVIEW: KEN BLOCK
internet, Ken Block truly is inspiring a driving
revolution.
It’s pretty rare these days to see the
creator of a sport not only at the event but
competing alongside all the other entrants.
“Every time we come back to an event
we see new guys that have come through
and are going quick,” said Block on the
up-and-comers. “This year there seems to
be a bunch of new guys who will be good
to watch. It’s great that we’ve got guys
like Shane Lynch, Liam Doran and Baggsy
out here, as those guys are all so talented.
It’s going to be a great weekend.” Block
obviously has true passion for this thing.
Just speaking to him about it, you can tell he
gets off on seeing everyone hoon around this
mental course in a cloud of smoke, with a big
fat grin on their face. “I’m not only excited to
drive, but also just to watch all of the guys
here compete over the weekend.”
When competition time came around, it
all went off at Santa Pod. Seeing both the
Hoonigan cars burning rubber over here
in the UK was just awesome. Ryan Tuerck
proved the immense power of the new
Escort by taking down UK driver and last
year’s winner Luke Woodham in the RWD
super-finals by eight seconds.
In the AWD class it was a big night for local
tire-slayer Dmitrij Sribnyj from Peterborough,
who took down the mighty Ken Block in the
final by just over a second. Big props go out
to Dmitrij for representing! u
