First up is Ben, co-founder of the company, remembering the 2009
and then I was off to take some pictures. The rest of the day
was super-frustrating, without a media pass I was trying
to get decent photos from my spot in the crowd – and not
succeeding. For me MX photography is all about patience
and access and at that moment I had neither - just loads of
crummy shots!
Back at the Alpinestars hospitality, we enjoyed an amazing
dinner (Tiramisu=aaaaa )! Riders started arriving and all
of a sudden I found myself next to Chad Reed. I tried to
play it cool, but I’ll be honest: I acted like a teenage girl! I
was proper star-struck! This was the guy I had watched on
countless Bar to Bar and The Great Outdoors DVD’s and
now he was standing next to me. Out of the blue he said:
“What’s the salmon like?“ To which my reply was “Cold”..
Cue awkward silence! I quickly recovered with: “but it’s
good man. Any chance I could get a pic?” - I could see Jeff
laughing at me, but at that moment I could hardly care - I
was getting my picture taken with one of the coolest dudes
ever! After dinner, we went back to our hotel to enjoy the
sunset..
We set off early on race day to beat the 90,000 fans to the
track. First stop: Alpinestars for breakfast where Jeremy
(their head of communications) had a present for me in the
form of an Astars photography jacket - just like the pros
wear. The jacket helped, but there was still an 8ft fence
between me and those great images. After some deliberation
