With Letterkenny becoming one of CraveTV ’ s biggest successes , Some Assembly Required renewed on Netflix and additional success in other roles , Playfair is certainly becoming more recognizable . Complementing this natural growth in fandom is the effort Playfair puts into his social media accounts , particularly on Instagram , where he has over 128K followers . “ When I first started on social media , I was just following other people ,” he recalls . “ But as my followers started increasing significantly , I realized the importance of presenting a good image – it was clear that social media is a party that people like to be in on . But most importantly , I believe it ’ s just about being honest . I like posting in the moment and not polishing too much – I think that ’ s how you build your fans – I think if there ’ s honesty in your presence … it ’ s about being real . For me , just being genuine has worked .”
While Playfair has only been in the business for a few years , he understands the changes that are taking place due to social media . “ Even on a simple analytic level – if you see someone has at least 100,000 followers , you know for sure they ’ re marketable for your project , so in the end – building a presence on social media is extremely important from a career standpoint .” Playfair does his best to engage with fans multiple times per day if possible , because he truly loves that aspect of opening a dialogue with fans . One fan even sent an artistic tribute to him . “ When someone takes the time to make a tribute to you – or even just send messages , that ’ s just the most important part . I think that we as actors need to remember , we don ’ t exist without the fans . These are the people who are ‘ buying our product ’ so to speak , so I personally understand and appreciate the importance of staying connected with them . My dad even taught me that through hockey .”
" I believe you should just always be aware and confident in whatever you have to say ."
- DYLAN PLAYFAIR
As much as his growing fame has overwhelmed him in a good way , Playfair makes sure to maintain a very controlled presence through his social media accounts , admitting that one of the toughest aspects of being a public figure is self-moderating . “ I am a pretty passionate person ,” he explains . “ I have a lot of views and opinions about things like politics , but I pretty much have to keep a lot of it to myself due to the … equally passionate people who may have a different opinion and much more time to express theirs . I have to be very careful with how I choose to spend my time and energy .” Of course , this also leads to a major point about the potential consequences of social media . “ Everyone has an opinion , no question – but once you put it out there , it can ’ t be taken back or edited . You better be ready for consequences . Before I post anything , I always take a second before I hit send . After all , once it ’ s out there , my grandmother could see it ! I believe you should just always be aware and confident in whatever you have to say .”
