DRIVING THE NEW
TO RANGE PROCESS
Klarius shares how they stay on top of aftermarket
demands with their design process, from start to finish.
By constantly profiling the new car market, UK exhaust parts manufacturer Klarius is able to
predict when replacements will be required, meaning requests are often already scheduled for
production. Popular models are prioritised, with the most common applications developed first,
although the needs of enthusiasts are still met. The opportunity to address faults with the original
exhaust means reasons for early failure are often remedied with the aftermarket part.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
Klarius continuously reviews product
requests from all over the UK and Europe
to ensure new-to-range additions meet
the aftermarket’s needs. These requests
are cross-referenced with Klarius’
central warehouse and logistics centre
development list. If new products are
requested that are not yet stocked or
in production, a dynamic design and
development process is triggered.
WORKING BACKWARDS
Once demand is identified, the OEM
exhaust is reverse engineered to ensure
the replacement matches the fit and
performance of the original. This involves
using actual vehicle models to analyse the
emissions system design, and recreating
with CAD before the prototype is
fabricated, as well as performance and fit
tested. It will then be deconstructed, and
the ideal production method and tooling
established. Finally, it will be certified and
enter production.
TESTING TIMES
Klarius conducts full independent testing
on a purpose-built track to deliver accurate
results. Once noise and emissions results are
approved by governing organisations like
the VCA or TÜV, the product also achieves
type-approval certification (if applicable)
before full production begins. This process
can be done in as little as a week due to
Klarius’ lean manufacturing principles.
WHY IS TYPE-
APPROVAL SO
IMPORTANT?
Selecting a type-approved
replacement aftermarket
part can guarantee that
the original performance
levels of a vehicle are
preserved, ensuring that a
vehicle will pass the MOT.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT
Using a Klarius quality replacement exhaust,
CAT, or DPF is essential to regulating back
pressure, ensuring that the engine operates
normally, improving fuel economy. They also
guarantee an extended service life, underlined by
Klarius’ standard 2-year warranty. In addition,
a ‘Fit First Time’ guarantee is offered for the
benefit of garage technicians, enabling a speedy
and long-lasting repair.
