VN 54 | APRIL – JUNE 2019 17 SPRINGING INTO THE STABILUS RANGE With 85 years of experience, and a pioneering attitude, Stabilus have developed a range of high quality springs. When quality isn’t in question, how do you select between blocking or non-blocking gas springs? Stabilus explains the differences between their offerings. NON-BLOCKING GAS SPRINGS – LIFT-O-MAT ® With accurately defined extension force and user-specific damping, LIFT-O-MAT ® gas springs provide optimum weight equalisation, support forces, and lift heavy loads. With effective operating temperatures between -30°C and +80°C, Stabilus has numerous sizes and force variants available. There’s a choice between linear spring characteristics to ensure even force increase across the entire movement, or progressive/ decreasing spring characteristics for force supply at the beginning or end of the stroke. LIFT-O-MAT ® springs are available with dynamic or hydraulic damping, depending on the application and installation orientation, and come with different end fitting systems for fast and easy mounting. The LIFT-O-MAT ® is available in several varieties including: • Hydro-Lift ® : Allows the movement to be stopped in several positions. • Elektro-Lift ® : Transmits electricity, e.g. to illuminate the engine compartment or the boot. • Inter-Stop ® : Divides the stroke into different functional ranges to manually hold the application in several positions. BLOCKING GAS SPRINGS – BLOC-O-LIFT ® The BLOC-O-LIFT ® gas springs can be locked in any position, in either tension or compression direction depending on the design. This is made possible by the valve integrated into the piston, and can be achieved regardless of the orientation. They are available with a small actuation range of 1mm, compared to the standard 2.5mm, for very easy operation. Upon request, these safety applications are available with an override function. DAMPERS – STAB-O-SHOC ® Dampers influence movements and vibrations and are matched to individual applications. Oil hydraulic dampers consist of a pressure cylinder, a piston rod with piston system and end fittings. During a movement the oil is forced through bores in the piston, thus creating the desired damping force. Like the BLOC-O-LIFT ® , the STAB-O-SHOC ® actuation range is 1mm to ensure easy operation. They are also available with rigid locking in tension and compression direction. ELECTROMECHANICAL DRIVES – POWERISE ® POWERISE ® spindle drives are used for either single or double sided applications and allow the spindles to operate and stop tailgates in any intermediate position. Stabilus POWERISE ® spindle drives are used as OE on BMW, Ford, Chrysler, Mercedes, Porsche, and VW selected models. FPS stocks the most popular 700 Stabilus springs and dampers, covering 97% of the UK pareto, which are available for same/next-day delivery. Special orders can be made through FPS for any non-stocked lines. All Stabilus parts match OE specifications and come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.
