NEW REGULATIONS FOR MOTORCYCLE BATTERIES
As of 1 st July 2018, members of public are no longer allowed to purchase a motorcycle
battery that is supplied with a separate acid pack without a valid explosives precursors
and poisons (EPP) licence. This is because; sulphuric acid has been reclassified as a
regulated substance and it is common for motorcycle batteries to be supplied with a
separate acid pack for filling and activation.
FPS SPONSORS KES CHALLENGE
In May, FPS sponsored 38 students from the King
Edward VI School (KES) who took on the stamina
testing KES600 challenge. They had to row, cycle and
run a combined 600km to raise money for charity. This
contest was an attempt to beat last year’s challenge of
racing to the RSC Tower. However the main aim was to
raise over £5,000 to split between Myton Hospice and
Great Ormond Street Hospital, and boost the school
sports fund.
Consumers can apply and receive an EPP license at a cost of £39.50 and licensed
individuals are allowed to obtain acid in concentrations of more than 15%. This includes
battery electrolytes that have not been filled into a motorcycle battery.
However, it is unlikely that the common customer will apply for an EPP license in
order to buy a motorcycle battery. Thus, retailers are advised to fill motorcycle batteries
before selling them to unlicensed members of public.
Their Director of Sport, Richard Mahoney, described the
event as ‘an inspirational race that will test our students'
performance as well as raising much needed funds for
our charities’.
While this is the first year FPS have sponsored
this event, FPS has had a long-standing charitable
relationship with King Edward VI School having
sponsored their school rugby team for several years.
FPS recently added new parts to its inventory with the following new-to-range additions:
Bosch Filters – 22 NTR Remy – 9 NTR
10 air filters, 7 fuel filters, 3 oil filters and 2 cabin filters. 5 brake calipers, 3 starter motors and 1 alternator.
Cambiare – 5 NTR TRW – 18 NTR
1 coolant temperature sensor, 1 exhaust gas pressure sensor, 1 fuel
tank sender unit, 1 ignition coil and 1 EGR valve. 14 braking parts, 3 steering & suspension parts & 1 transmission.
