Researching for GIPS
For many years NSW Study Days for both Qualifying and
Finals topics were held at Loreto Normanhurst on behalf of
the NSW Committee. Academics and other experts
ensured students had the most up-to-date understanding
of their topics possible.
Assoc. Professor Mike Ford from
University of Technology Sydney hosted
NSW students several times and organised
speakers on topics— Immigration,
Nanotechnology and DNA Identification
Greg Mortimer OAM Adventurer and
Mountain Climber including Mt Everest
talked to our students about Antarctica.
Dr Julia Atkin an Education Consultant
conducted a day for National Finalists on the
topic Lifelong Learning.
Rev Bill Crews from Exodus Foundation
spoke to NSW students about Cultural
Prejudice.
Denise Lynch from University of Sydney
spoke to our students about Orphaned
Children.
Andrew Baker from TRIA spoke to NSW
finalists about Debt in Developing Countries.
Professor David Lane from
Professional Development Foundation
and Middlesex University , London
helped students understand the topic of
Immigration in 2004.
FPS experience was useful when trying
to formulate an argument, and the
depth of research into advanced topics
such as genetic engineering or space
exploration was a good example of the
kinds of research skills necessary when
studying at a higher level.
Dr Louise Sutherland from the University
of Sydney, and formerly the Australian
Catholic University, organised study days at
those universities from 1996 for several
years.
